Third Mission

Prof. Dr. Jürgen Radel, M.A.

Professor of Management

Great ideas earn their worth in practice. That’s why I turn real-world challenges into learning laboratories.

Bridging academia and practice

Generating and advancing new knowledge has always been academia’s first mandate. Teaching is the second. In recent years, however, a “third mission” has gained momentum across Europe: direct engagement with society and the economy. This mission challenges professors to move beyond classrooms and journals—to create tangible impact by translating ideas into innovation, partnerships, and social value.

For me, this third mission is a deliberate, two-way bridge. I open the university’s resources — cutting-edge leadership research and a neutral, reflective space — to senior executives seeking fresh perspectives on strategic and human dilemmas. In return, real-world challenges flow back into my research agenda, sharpening its relevance and reach.

How does this bridge look like in real life?

I coach and consult executives one-to-one, turning rigorous organizational science into high-impact results for their teams and enterprises. When needed, we convene executive roundtables, embed student teams into live cases, or co-design low-risk pilot initiatives — on culture integration, leadership team dynamics, or large-scale change. Your organization benefits from evidence-based insights and agile experimentation; academia gains fresh relevance and momentum.

If you are looking for a sparring partner who can translate scholarly insight into pragmatic advantage, I invite you to bring your toughest questions into this university–industry laboratory.

Let’s unlock new possibilities — together, in real time.
